Oil Tank Removal in Rockingham County NH
This is the part most people get wrong about the region. Rockingham County has more oil-heated homes than Hillsborough County does, 50,876 against 48,341, on roughly 42,000 fewer households.
At 39.4% it runs above the state's own 37%. If you are looking for where the tanks are in southern New Hampshire, the answer is east of Manchester rather than around it.
Why the Numbers Sit This Way
Rockingham grew hard as commuter country, but it grew on top of an older rural town structure rather than replacing it. So you get subdivisions from the eighties and nineties sitting next to farmhouses that predate the Civil War, and gas coverage that reflects neither pattern consistently.
50,876 households here heat with oil. Spread across eleven towns we cover and a good many we do not, that is the densest concentration of working oil tanks in this part of the state.

Auburn and Candia Are Not Hillsborough
Both border Manchester and both are Rockingham County. It matters because county is what determines which registry your deed sits in and which set of records a title search pulls, and a buried tank question is usually a records question before it is a digging question.
It also catches out contractors quoting from a map rather than from the town line.
The Derry and Londonderry Corridor
These two are the volume. Both are large, both have a wide spread of housing ages, and both have the mix that makes tank work unpredictable: eighties subdivisions where the tank is exactly where you expect, next to older properties where it is not.
For anything bought or sold along this corridor, the buried tank question is worth asking before the inspection rather than after it.
Grant Coverage Here
Identical to everywhere else in the state, because Safetank is run by NHDES rather than by a town. Up to $4,000 toward replacing an aboveground tank, up to $4,500 toward removing a buried one, income-qualified, approved before the work starts.
Given how many working oil tanks this county has, it is probably the most under-claimed grant in the region. What it covers.
